To all actors of the Space Sector
We want to keep using and dreaming of Space
How do we do so responsibly ?
The Space Fresco invites you to explore the full spectrum of space activities, to face both their promises and their consequences—on Earth’s environment and in orbit
Are you ready to come onboard ?

Over 200 participants have already joined this journey of transformation

The sector is growing worldwide, driven by rising commercial applications, reduced launch and manufacturing costs, and relatively loose international frameworks
This expansion raises fundamental questions :
As debris grows, who will still have safe access to orbits ?
What role can space realistically play in tackling climate change ?
How do we balance the benefits of satellite services with their environmental footprint?
Will space foster cooperation or fuel international tension ?
Sustainability in space brings to light the dual reality of footprint (negative impacts) and handprint (positive contributions). Yet many of these issues remain insufficiently understood—not only by the public but also by engineers, managers, and decision-makers across the sector

The Space Fresco at the International Space University - Participants collaborate in groups of 4 to 7 around a table
The workshop sets out to highlight:
The Exponential growth of satellites in low Earth orbit, orbital congestion, light pollutions, radio-frequency interférences, and the cascading danger of space debris
The environmental footprint of launch and spacecrafts, stratospheric ozone impacts, and other effects on planetary boundaries, including chemical pollution
The strengths and shortcomings of current international agreements governing the commons of outer space, and the visions they imply for future generations
Moving forward requires:
Mapping out existing initiatives—European, national, organizational—along the entire value chain.
Providing each participant the chance to identify their first steps, adapted to their role (engineer, lawyer, finance, strategy, HR, communications…), while also fostering collective action across organizations.
Opening the door to the Fresco alumni community, where participants can continue exchanging and acting together beyond the workshop.
As a team, you will anchor knowledge, examine challenges, gain perspective, inspire each other,
and begin sketching the future for the kind of space sector you wish to see.
